Some people might not like this title. Oh well, the Bible teaches it.
Jesus claims to be God
- Jesus never said “I am God” in the Bible. But he has said other things that let us know who he is. We people who profess to be a Christian and deny who Christ is, this let’s me know that they don’t read the scriptures. The scriptures teach Jesus is God. All they have to do is read. The new testament isn’t as large as the old testament.
John 10:30-31 KJV
I and my Father are one. [31] Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
- Jesus said “I and my Father are one” and what happened next the Jews tried to kill him. Jesus did claim to be God.
John 10:33 KJV
The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
- See as I stated above. And here they tried to kill him again:
John 10:38-39 KJV
But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him. [39] Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand,
- They tried to kill Jesus here:
John 8:56-59 KJV
Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. [57] Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? [58] Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. [59] Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
- Look at what Jesus says in John 8:58, “Before Abraham was, I am”. Wow, Jesus existed before Abraham. I am sounds familar.
Exodus 3:14 KJV
And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
- This why they tried to kill him. What did Jesus say here:
John 8:24 KJV
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
- He also said:
John 8:28 KJV
Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
John 13:19 KJV
Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
John 18:5 KJV
They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
John 18:6 KJV
As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
John 18:8 KJV
Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:
Revelation 1:18 KJV
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Revelation 2:23 KJV
And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
- What do these scriptures have to do with Jesus claiming to be God? Jesus said I am he just as God says in the old testament.
Deuteronomy 32:39 KJV
See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.
Isaiah 41:4 KJV
Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he.
Isaiah 43:10 KJV
Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
Isaiah 43:13 KJV
Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?
Isaiah 46:4 KJV
And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.
Isaiah 48:12 KJV
Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.
Isaiah 51:12 KJV
I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass;
Isaiah 52:6 KJV
Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I.
- Look at the verse above, at the end God says “it is I”
- This appears in scripture 5 times. And only Jesus and his Father say this.
Matthew 14:27 KJV
But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
Mark 6:50 KJV
For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
Luke 24:39 KJV
Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
John 6:20 KJV
But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.
- What else did he say?
John 14:6-11 KJV
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. [7] If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. [8] Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. [9] Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? [10] Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. [11] Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
- Phillip said “shew us the Father“ when he had already seen him. God was with.
The scriptures claim Jesus is God
- I know what some of you are thinking, “the scriptures are from men” “just because they thought he was God doesn’t make it right” Think again
2 Timothy 3:16 KJV
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
- Let’s take a look at what else the book of John says:
John 1:1-4 KJV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] The same was in the beginning with God. [3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. [4] In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
- The Word is God. He was there is the beginning. All things were made by him. I wonder who this Word is? Its surely not the word.
John 1:14 KJV
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
- The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us? Who is this talking about?
John 1:15 KJV
John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
- John bare witness of the Word.
John 1:19-20 KJV
And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? [20] And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
- But wait there’s more
John 1:29 KJV
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
- The Word is Jesus Christ
Revelation 19:11-14 KJV
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. [12] His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. [13] And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. [14] And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
- In the book of Revelation, Jesus returns to go war against the beast.
Revelation 19:15-16 KJV
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. [16] And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
- On his thigh is a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. Sound familar?
Deuteronomy 10:17 KJV
For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:
Psalm 136:2-3 KJV
O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever. [3] O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever.
1 Timothy 6:14-15 KJV
That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: [15] Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
- Wow, these scriptures are amazing.
- God the Father is called invisible:
- 1 Timothy 1:17 KJV
Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. - Jesus is called the image of the invisible God.
Colossians 1:12-19 KJV
Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: [13] Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: [14] In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: [15] Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: [16] For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: [17] And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. [18] And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. [19] For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
- Remember the Word was made flesh.
1 Timothy 3:16 KJV
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
- Who is this scripture speaking of? Jesus
1 John 3:5 KJV
And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
- But wait there’s more:
2 Corinthians 5:19 KJV
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
- God was in Christ! And another scripture about Jesus being God’s image:
Hebrews 1:1-3 KJV
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, [2] Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; [3] Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
- The name of Jesus is above every name.
Philippians 2:5-11 KJV
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: [6] Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: [7] But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: [8] And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. [9] Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: [10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; [11] And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
- God layed his life down for us
1 John 3:16 KJV
Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
- Just like we have a body, soul, and spirit so does God. Jesus said “I and my Father are one” and this scripture says:
1 John 5:7 KJV
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
